Both music services iLike and Lala have seen a massive growth since they have been included in Google’s Music Onebox service. Muztec checked the traffic statistics as represented by Alexa and found that both services are now almost both as big with MySpace owned iLike slightly being the biggest (see the detail – iLike being in red with Lala being in blue). However it’s Lala who has seen a massive growth of almost 900% overnight. iLike ‘only’ doubled its traffic since what could be called a very succesful joined venture with Google.

It remains to be seen of course if this will also translate in similar sales via both music services. Check the stats for Lala versus those for iLike.

Yesterday we announced that Google’s newly launched Music Onebox would be offering (exclusive) songs (for free) from several ‘famous acts’ in order to promote their service. We now know what this ‘famous’ list will hold and it’s rather disappointing, unless the US crowd has such a meager taste? Here’s what artists Google came up with to give away free tracks: Tim McGraw, Phoenix, Major Lazer, Mos Def and Zee Avi. Who? Yes, them.

Google’s new music search feature makes it easy to find music. Just search for an artist, album, song or even a few lyrics to get song previews from their partners MySpace via iLike, Lala, iTunes etc). The feature is rolling out slowly over the next few days via www.google.com/music. You can view a video made by Google explaining how the service works right after the jump!

A interesting news tidbit reached us from the colleagues at Techcrunch. According to their sources Google’s newly launched Music Onebox (which lets users stream songs in their entirety for free) will be offering songs from several famous acts that can only be found through Google search. And some of those exclusive tracks will be given away for free.

Still according to the tech blog, over 20 artists are involved. Seeing that U2 has been involved in almost every promotional material, it’s pretty sure that at least Bono and C° will be included in this promotional action to boost the new music search service.

Expect it to launch in the next days, in the US only that is for the moment!

Except that the service is only slowly rolling out in the US only, what else is new? Nothing really as no extra info that we didn’t already know about Google Music has been made available with the launch of the search service. That is if you don’t count the fact that only people from the US can access it. Outside the US you can reach this website: www.google.com/landing/music/ . But that’s it as queries are directed to the normal Google search results. Notice the very correct baseline: “One click to preview, and, with an account from one of our partners, one click to buy”.

One thing is sure, if this service meets the expectations, MySpace has made its first golden deal since bending over Google for 900 million dollar of Adsense money. The biggest loosers are Facebook, (ex-iLike shareholder) Ticketmaster and actually also eBay who let the opportunity to acquire iLike slip away, with eBay being outright disinterested. iLike was sold for ‘only’ $20 million in August to MySpace. Peanuts compared to the profit the service should be generating in the near future. Good to know, MySpace made an offer to iLike being completely unaware of the pending Google deal.

Crisis in hard rock land. Swedish hard rockers, Europe, have launched their ‘official’ media blog… on Google’s free platform Blogger. Not exactly something we would associate with a professional approach whatever the merits of Blogger are. The band is about to start their “Last Look at Eden” tour and all money is now gone so you could assume.

The blog features the latest news, reviews and interviews, including an interview with lead singer Joey Tempest’s on Frank Skinner’s Saturday morning radio show on Absolute Radio, Classic Rock Magazine’s “Gig of the Week”, a Swedish TV commercial for the “Eden” album, plus coverage in various hard rock magazines and websites.

Pirate alert!  Those who browse to www.googlemusicsearch.com will see ‘Google Music Search’ active. Well, you’d think that at least Google would have secured the domain. They didn’t. The site has nothing to do with Google and it remains to be seen how long it will be able to stay online now that Google is to launch its own music search service any minute now.

Google is partnering with at least 4 online music services for its Google Music service (in fact nothing more than an enhanced search). There will streaming songs from LaLa.com, song samples from iLike.com, and song purchasing options from Apple’s iTunes and from Amazon MP3. Muztec learned that a 5th partner would also join, namely iMeem. Revenue from the service will be split between the music servics and the record labels as Google views the system more as a way to retain users rather than a direct revenue source.

The service will launch next week, October 28th. Looking at the ease that how major record labels wanted to join the service (not that they wouldn’t as they are already working with the named services anyhow), you can bet on it that they have high hopes for it. It remains to be seen if this new service from Google will deliver the traffic boost needed to get the legal downloadtrain on the correct track as far as revenue is concerned. Also, will it convince torrent seekers to switch to paying for what they request for free?

Google Music will not launch an own application as some suggested but partner with iLike and LaLa for their new music service. The service – rather a partnership – will be announced on Wednesday, October 28, 2009. The new service will be integrated into Google search so Techcrunch says. Users will be able to stream songs directly from Google via partners iLike and LaLa. Additional linked information will be added around the music search result.

Good news for the labels, users will be offered the opportunity to purchase songs for download. Up until today iLike and LaLa provide just a limited streaming service whereas MySpace Music, who recently took over iLike, has full streaming rights from all four major labels plus a large number of indie labels.

Weird how things can turn. Just a few days ago we posted about the fact that Google does have the resources to start its very own Music service and behold, Techcrunch announces today that Google will soon launch a music service. The company has spent the last few weeks securing content for the launch of the service from the major music labels and is according to what Muztec learned also speaking to the major indie music download aggregators in order to add some quality as well besides quantity .

The name for the service apparently would be Google Audio. So far Google did not activate www.google.com/audio or audio.google.com so it remains to be seen if that is correct. It’s not exactly a virgin path for Google as it has already launched the Google China music download service back in 2008. Only available in China, it allows users to search for music and download it for free. All revenue comes from the ads clicked upon by people searching for music.

Download or streaming service, or both, none of it is known. More news as we get it.
