Google OneboxYesterday we announced that Google’s newly launched Music Onebox would be offering (exclusive) songs (for free) from several ‘famous acts’ in order to promote their service. We now know what this ‘famous’ list will hold and it’s rather disappointing, unless the US crowd has such a meager taste? Here’s what artists Google came up with to give away free tracks: Tim McGraw, Phoenix, Major Lazer, Mos Def and Zee Avi. Who? Yes, them.

And there are also exclusives from:

  • AFI (”Torch Song” – Demo From Crash Love Sessions)
  • Arctic Monkeys (”Catapult”)
  • Bon Jovi (”We Weren’t Born To Follow” – Acoustic Version, Recorded Live From Inside The Actor’s Studio)
  • Dead by Sunrise (”Let Down” – Live)
  • Green Day (”Know Your Enemy” – Live In Tokyo)
  • Kings of Leon (”Crawl” – Miike Snow Remix)
  • Lady Gaga (”Paparazzi” – David Aude Remix)
  • Linkin Park (”New Divide” – Live)
  • Luke Bryan (”Better Than My Heart”)
  • Norah Jones (”Young Blood”)
  • One Republic (”All The Right Moves” – Live)
  • Paramore (”Where The Lines Overlap” – Acoustic Version)
  • Snoop Dogg (”Upside Down” – Featuring Nipsey Hussle)
  • The Fray (”Be The One” – Demo Version)
  • Trey Songz (”LOL” – feat. Gucci Mane & Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em (Logan deGaulle Remix))
  • Weezer (”(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To” – Live In Kansas City)
  • Zac Brown Band (”Chicken Fried” – Live From Bonnaroo)

That means no single song or band we would Google. It’s surprising that Google did not present a live song from U2’s recent YouTube streaming concerts, that would be more logical than this rather weird choice which does not really reflect the complete spectrum of online users.

Knowing that Yahoo has been doing exactly the same thing for 2 years now, you’d think that the boys and girls at Google would be somewhat more inventive as far as implementing the idea.
